Vintage Handira, Moroccan Wedding Blanket (7' 10" x 4')
We can’t get enough of this one-of-a-kind, vintage handira, also known as a Moroccan wedding blanket. This exquisite textile features a thick, soft shag, playful colorful accents, elaborate embroidery, and gorgeous pops of sequins that catch the light beautifully. It’s the perfect bohemian accessory for any home—draped over a bed, folded across the back of a couch, or even displayed as a statement wall hanging.
Tradition & Symbolism
Handiras are traditionally handwoven for Berber brides by their female relatives. As they weave and embellish the blanket, the women share advice, blessings, and well wishes for the bride’s new marriage. At the wedding, the handira is tied around the shoulders of the bride (this piece still has the original shoulder ties) and worn as a cloak of love and protection as she enters her new life. It is truly one of the most beautiful traditions in Moroccan culture.
