Vintage Ouazguita Moroccan Rug (7' 3" x 4’ 7”)
This magnificent vintage Ouazguita rug hails from the High Atlas Mountains of Morocco, a region revered for its bold, expressive, and deeply symbolic tribal textiles. It features a luminous crimson field, adorned with diamond and stepped medallions in ivory and ochre, and framed by opulent golden-yellow and carmine borders woven with intricate repeating motifs. The brilliant golden tones were achieved with natural saffron dye, a hallmark of the Ouazguita tradition and a symbol of prosperity and vitality.
Hand-knotted from 100% hand-spun wool, the pile is plush and velvety underfoot, showcasing the skill, tradition, and fine natural fibers employed by its Berber makers. This piece is in outstanding vintage condition, retaining its powerful color saturation, soft texture, and elegant time-worn patina.
The symbolic design—stacked lozenges, prayer-like arches, and repeating cross-forms—carries ancestral meaning tied to protection, fertility, and spiritual continuity. Beyond its practical beauty, this rug is a collector-worthy textile, a true expression of the Ouazguita weaving legacy.
