Vintage Zamouri Moroccan Rug (6' 11" x 5’ 8”)

  • $1,900.00

This rare, exquisite vintage Zamouri rug was handwoven by the Zemmour tribe of the Middle Atlas Mountains in Morocco, a group celebrated for their refined artistry and richly symbolic textiles. It features a striking crimson field meticulously arranged in a checkerboard of small geometric panels, each containing intricate motifs—stars, crosses, diamonds, and floral-like forms—woven in saffron, ochre, ivory, and deep black. The precise grid design is framed by ornate multicolored borders, adding balance and rhythm to the composition.

Hand-knotted from 100% hand-spun wool, the pile is soft yet durable, embodying both utility and artistry. This piece is in superb vintage condition, retaining its saturated palette and detailed patterning with a graceful patina that speaks to decades of life and heritage.

The symbolism—protective lozenges, ancestral crosses, and fertility motifs—infuses the rug with meaning while the structure of the design reflects the Zemmour’s mastery of order and symmetry. Beyond its decorative impact, this rug is a collector-worthy textile, equally suited as a functional floor covering or as a statement wall-hung artwork.
